This information is particularly crucial for orthodontists approaching the lingual technique for the first time, as merely translating what we know about labial biomechanics to lingual appliances is likely to lead to unsatisfactory results, and therefore discourage future use of this highly effective and well-received type of treatment. However, acquisition of a few simple biomechanical principles that have been highlighted in the latest research into the issue can make this technique accessible to all with little need for extra training, and hopefully thereby accelerate the diffusion of lingual orthodontics.
